Purpose

The Collector of Revenue is the county's banker and tax collector. The collector, who is elected to a 4-year term, maintains control of county funds until they are distributed on a monthly basis to government agencies. The collector oversees a total annual cash flow of all county finances.

Process

  1. The Butler County Assessor of Property Office appraises all properties, both real estate and personal property.
  2. The Butler County Board of Commissioners in their annual December meeting adopt a budget for that current fiscal year and at the same time set and determine that calendar year's property tax rate.
  3. The prepared property tax roll is moved to the Butler County Collector’s Office for billing, collecting, accounting for funds collected and funding the accounts as approved by the Butler County Board of Commissioners.
  4. Tax billing statements are usually mailed the 1st week of November of the tax year. Property taxes become due and payable at that time and become delinquent if not paid by the last day in December of the same year.
  5. The collector processes all tax bills and collects all money owed.
